DAY 1: WELCOME TO BUENOS AIRES

  • Arrive at airport
  • Transfer to meet your trip staff at designated meeting location.
  • Enjoy lunch on own in the San Telmo Market and experience the sights, smells, and tastes of Buenos Aires’ oldest Barrio.
  • Enjoy a guided tour of Buenos Aires, including:
    • Avenida de Mayo that runs into the Plaza De Mayo, which is surrounded by the Casa Rosada (Government House).
    • The Metropolitan Cathedral and the Cabildo (first City Hall, built during Spanish rule).
  • Check into the hotel.
  • Come together as a group for a welcome dinner in a local Argentinian restaurant.

DAY 2: TREASURES OF BUENOS AIRES

  • HMI Conversation: A conversation about Jewish identity and meaning and understanding the local community.
  • Take a walking tour of the Recoleta area, one of the city’s most glamorous spots and home to elegant boutiques, excellent restaurants, and the cemetery where Eva Perón (Evita) is buried.
  • Stop at the Israeli Embassy Memorial, which was bombed on March 17, 1992. Twenty-nine people lost their lives in the tragedy.
  • Lunch on your own in the Recoleta neighborhood.
  • Spend time at the Holocaust Museum in Buenos Aires, delving into how the history of the Holocaust reverberated throughout Argentina.
  • Visit the Jewish Museum at Libertad Synagogue and meet with the curator of the museum which is housed in Buenos Aires’ Grand Synagogue. Discover the rich history and cultural significance of Argentine Jewry through exhibits showcasing artifacts and photographs.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Evening at leisure to enjoy Buenos Aires’s culinary scene and nightlife on your own.

DAY 3: JEWISH LIFE IN BUENOS AIRES

  • Meet with a representative of the LAJC, the Latin American Jewish Congress, and learn about the modern political realities of Latin America and how they impact the Jewish communities.
  • Explore the “Once District,” a neighborhood that houses the majority of Jewish institutions in Buenos Aires, including the Hebraica JCC, numerous synagogues, Jewish theaters, Jewish schools, and rabbinical seminaries.
  • View the ‘AMIA’, Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina, a major Jewish community center and the site of the terrorist bombing in 1994. See and learn about their new building and the memorial dedicated to the 89 victims.
  • Enjoy lunch on own.
  • Tikkun Olam: Meet with a representative of the Tzedaka Foundation to learn about their impactful work and participate in a service project with local community members. Established to support Argentina’s development, the foundation has brought meaningful improvements to the lives of thousands of vulnerable and at-risk Argentinians.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner & Party: My Jewish Journey + HMI Celebration! Enjoy a special evening in Buenos Aires! Start with dinner and hear from Lazos, a network of Jewish professionals across Latin America, as they share their personal journeys. Then, keep the night going with the HMI Party — food, fun, and dancing!

DAY 4: COLORFUL & INSPIRING BUENOS AIRES

  • Begin your tour of the colorful La Boca neighborhood at the vibrant Caminito Street, known for its colorful houses, street art, and tango dancers. Stroll through the open-air museum and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
  • Enjoy a private boat cruise from La Boca to Puerto Madero, offering a unique perspective of the city’s skyline.
  • Stroll Puerto Madero, a strikingly modern waterfront district that was once a bustling port and has since been transformed into a dynamic hub of restaurants, offices, and parks.
  • Free time for lunch on own.
  • Moth-style storytelling and HMI Conversation: Exploring Jewish peoplehood and global community.
  • Argentina is the birthplace of Tango. Led by a professional tango dancer, you will learn to tango like a local while hearing about the history of the dance and the role it plays in everyday life.
  • Dinner on your own – explore the vibrant neighborhoods and restaurants, or take it easy and rest at the hotel!

DAY 5: A DAY IN TIGRE: NATURE & COMMUNITY

  • Depart for Tigre, a popular weekend gateway on the outskirts of the city, very popular amongst the Jewish community of Buenos Aires. The Tigre Delta is one of the most attractive areas for visitors due to its rivers, streams, and numerous green islands.
  • Explore Tigre’s iconic fruit market, where local flavors, artisanal goods, and colorful stalls await. Discover the charm of this riverside town while enjoying fresh produce and unique crafts in a lively, cultural setting.
  • Lunch at the Jewish Club Hacoaj for an opportunity to learn more about Argentinian Jewry – past, present, and future – and meet with members of the community.
  • Embark on a serene cruise through the winding channels of the Paraná Delta, where nature flourishes in every direction. Glide past lush islands, dense forests, and charming riverside homes that reflect the region’s unique blend of tranquility and life. Whether you’re birdwatching or simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, this journey offers a refreshing escape into Argentina’s hidden natural gem.
  • Return to the hotel to get ready for Shabbat.
  • Take part in Kabbalat Shabbat services followed by a Shabbat dinner.

DAY 6: EMBRACING SHABBAT

  • Modeling Shabbat: Optional Rabbi-led Shabbat morning experience.
  • Day at leisure in Buenos Aires to shop for local treasures, unwind at charming cafés, or explore the city’s vibrant neighborhoods at your own pace.
  • “Israel 101”: A time for questions, insights, and dialogue on Israel and how it fits into the Jewish story, especially during challenging times.
  • Mark the end of Shabbat with havdalah (ritual that ends Shabbat).
  • Discover the vibrant streets of Palermo Soho and explore Buenos Aires’ weekend nightlife and its local cuisine.

DAY 7: TRADITION AND NATURE ON THE PAMPAS

  • Check out of the hotel and depart the city for the day to experience Gaucho culture. Gauchos became emblematic of resilience and independence, embodying a rugged spirit that resonates through Argentine culture to this day.
  • Enjoy a farewell lunch with a traditional Argentine BBQ.
  • Take part in a folklore show, and watch the gauchos show off their incredible riding skills.
  • HMI Conversation: Taking our experience home.
  • Transfer to Buenos Aires International Airport.
