Home is where your HMI family is 🫶

Our team had the joy of helping our SF Bay Area alums Natalie and Teddy host a housewarming and mezuzah-hanging party in their new home with seven HMI couples (and lots of love) showing up to mark the moment. After sharing a bit about the meaning behind the mezuzah, guests were invited to share what they hope the couple feels each time they walk through their door. As you can imagine, these wishes were warm, comforting, and full of that HMI love.
In times that feel dark or confusing, some find comfort in turning to Jewish rituals like this as a means to embrace Jewish joy and foster connections with the Jewish community – two things HMI is always down for. Let us know how we can help create Jewish joy in your life.
And special shout out to Michael Mishali, HMI SF Bay Area Director of Community Engagement, for leading the mezuzah-hanging ceremony and taking these beautiful photos!
What’s a mezuzah?
A mezuzah is a small scroll, called a klaf, in a case that’s placed on Jewish doorways as a reminder of Jewish identity, tradition, and the values we bring into our homes. Some believe that the mezuzah also protects the home. Ashkenazi Jews traditionally angle the mezuzah with the top tilted inward; some Sephardic Jews place the mezuzah in an upright position.
