Sweet, simple, and rooted in tradition—with a little late-night magic.
Shavuot is a holiday that celebrates receiving the Torah, marking a moment of shared learning, reflection, and connection in Jewish history. It’s also known for its delicious dairy traditions, warm summer gatherings, and the beautiful custom of staying up late to learn together (called Tikkun Leil Shavuot).
Whether you’re hosting a backyard ice cream social, gathering alumni for a relaxed evening of conversation and learning, or creating a kid-friendly celebration with stories and sweets, Shavuot is a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with your HMI community.
To help bring your gathering to life, HMI will reimburse up to $10 per alum in attendance to support your Shavuot Ice Cream Party—whether that goes toward ice cream, toppings, drinks, simple decor, or activities for kids and adults alike.
Here are a few ideas to inspire you:
🍦 Build-Your-Own Ice Cream Bar
Set up a DIY station with a few ice cream flavors and fun toppings. Invite everyone to create their perfect bowl while mingling and catching up.
📖 Learning + Dessert Night
Pair your ice cream party with a short, accessible learning moment—read a short text, share a reflection, or explore a Shavuot theme together. No prior knowledge needed—just curiosity.
🌙 After-Dark Hangout (Tikkun Leil Shavuot Lite)
Keep the gathering going into the evening with music, conversation, or a casual group discussion. Honor the tradition of late-night learning in a way that feels approachable and social.
👨👩👧👦 Family-Friendly Shavuot Celebration
Set up crafts, storytelling, or simple games for kids alongside sweet treats. Shavuot is a great opportunity to bring alumni families together in a relaxed, welcoming space.
However you celebrate, Shavuot is about showing up in community—making space for reflection, connection, and a little sweetness along the way.
Once you’ve hosted your gathering, send us a photo or short video—we’d love to see the joy (and the ice cream!) you’re bringing to your local HMI community.
