Fall Jewish Papercutting

October 25, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Papercutting is an ancient art form, with original papercuts dating back to the 6th century in China. Since that time, artisans have used paper, scissors and knives to create objects both ornamental and
functional.

We are currently celebrating a renaissance of Jewish papercutting! We will be working with a form of the hamsa, or hamsa hand, a talisman from the ancient Middle East. In its most common form, the amulet is shaped like a hand with three extended fingers in the middle and a curved thumb or pinky finger on either side. It is thought to protect against the “evil eye”.

This two hour workshop is perfect for those comfortable with a variety of art forms, as well as those who haven’t cut anything since paper snowflakes in class.

All materials will be provided for this virtual experience!
(Feel free to bring your own brunch drinks! Mimosas anyone?)
