This class is geared towards children\, but is suitable for participants of all ages. \nWe will provide you with hamantaschen dough (pre-made at Baked by Yael) as well as 3 different hamantaschen filings:  apricot\, raspberry\, and chocolate.  We’ll show you how to roll out the hamantaschen dough\, cut it into circles\, add the filling\, shape the hamantaschen\, and bake it! \nClasses last 45-60 minutes.  The exact number of hamantaschen varies\, but we will give you enough dough to make approximately one dozen standard-size hamantaschen. \nRegistration fee includes materials for one participant:  pre-made hamantaschen dough\, apricot filling\, raspberry filling\, chocolate filling\, egg\, parchment paper\, cookie cutter\, and pastry brush. \n\n\nDuring checkout\, you’ll be asked to select whether you’d like to pick up your class supplies at Baked by Yael (we offer curbside pickup) or have them delivered to your home for an additional fee.  You may also pick up your Hamantaschen Kit at at any of 5 farmers’ market in the DMV.  (Select your farmers’ market at checkout.)  Shipping is not available for this class. \nZoom video conferencing details will be sent to all confirmed participants 24 to 48 hours prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Fall Jewish Papercutting
DESCRIPTION:Papercutting is an ancient art form\, with original papercuts dating back to the 6th century in China. Since that time\, artisans have used paper\, scissors and knives to create objects both ornamental and\nfunctional.\n \nWe are currently celebrating a renaissance of Jewish papercutting! We will be working with a form of the hamsa\, or hamsa hand\, a talisman from the ancient Middle East. In its most common form\, the amulet is shaped like a hand with three extended fingers in the middle and a curved thumb or pinky finger on either side. It is thought to protect against the “evil eye”.\n \nThis two hour workshop is perfect for those comfortable with a variety of art forms\, as well as those who haven’t cut anything since paper snowflakes in class.\n \nAll materials will be provided for this virtual experience!\n(Feel free to bring your own brunch drinks! Mimosas anyone?)

DESCRIPTION:We’re so excited to offer a “cheese monster” cheese and havdallah class on Saturday\, August 22nd at 7:30 PM! \nCheese 101: In this class\, we will kick off with havdallah rituals\, then we will we taste through 5 different cheeses and talk about culture\, geography\, history\, and science through the lens of how cheese is made. This will also include some tips and tricks about cheese boards and presentation! \nThere are two options: You can get a list and buy your own cheese\, and just take the class and event with us for $20 a couple (HMI will pay the other $20 class fee) You can pick up cheese from our official cheese monster/cheese monger and take the class for $35!
