SUMMARY:HMI Boston: Cocktails and Conversation: Reimagining the Four Children in the Passover Story
DESCRIPTION:Cocktails and Conversation: Reimagining the Four Children in the Passover Story\nTuesday\, April 16 at 6:00 pm at Lehrhaus \nThe Passover seder (traditional festive meal) contains the story of Four Children\, labeled as the wise child\, the wicked child\, the simple child and the child who does not know how to ask. But what does this mean? Do these labels limit how we think about each perspective? What does this framework mean in today’s world? \nJoin HMI educator Elisha Gechter for a deep dive exploring the Four Children and bring some new perspectives to your Passover seder! We’ll enjoy learning and conversation over delicious cocktails\, and you’re invited to stick around afterwards for bites in the Lehrhaus tavern. \nRSVP

SUMMARY:HMI Boston: Passover Date Night (IRL)
DESCRIPTION:A seder plate isn’t just an ordinary plate — it’s full of history\, traditions\, and symbolism passed down through generations of Jewish families around the world (a seder plate is a special plate containing symbolic foods eaten or displayed at the Passover Seder\, aka the ritual dinner held on the first two nights of the holiday). What do each of the foods on the plate stand for? How are they relevant to our lives now\, thousands of years after the Jews were freed from slavery in Egypt? \nHMI Boston\, along with 18Doors and The Vilna Shul\, invite you to join us as we dive into these questions and more. Our evening will begin with wine and snacks on the outdoor patio\, and you’ll have the chance to meet other Jewish\, interfaith\, and multifaith couples as you learn about the symbols of the seder plate through play\, conversation\, and other creative outlets. \nClick here to RSVP – $36 per couple!

SUMMARY:Fall Jewish Papercutting
DESCRIPTION:Papercutting is an ancient art form\, with original papercuts dating back to the 6th century in China. Since that time\, artisans have used paper\, scissors and knives to create objects both ornamental and\nfunctional.\n \nWe are currently celebrating a renaissance of Jewish papercutting! We will be working with a form of the hamsa\, or hamsa hand\, a talisman from the ancient Middle East. In its most common form\, the amulet is shaped like a hand with three extended fingers in the middle and a curved thumb or pinky finger on either side. It is thought to protect against the “evil eye”.\n \nThis two hour workshop is perfect for those comfortable with a variety of art forms\, as well as those who haven’t cut anything since paper snowflakes in class.\n \nAll materials will be provided for this virtual experience!\n(Feel free to bring your own brunch drinks! Mimosas anyone?)
